A new ecommerce store with a fresh new design, fully responsive and mobile friendly, complete with advanced order processing facilities.
Requirements
Update the design of the store.
Provide a new content management system to replace the ageing and limited, open source system.
Make it mobile friendly, responsive.
Provide integration with social media and marketing platforms such as MailChimp etc.
Provide integration for Google Analytics, conversion tracking and Google Webmaster Tools.
Approach
We were asked to take the existing store, which was starting to show it's age in terms of the look and feel, user experience and shop processing features, and design a solution which would address all these needs plus provide a system which would serve them for years to come.
As a result of these requirements we decided that WordPress, WooCommerce, an advanced commercial theme and a number of professional Wordpress plug ins was the best package for the client.
Development
It is always trickier with an existing ecommerce system as there is the added requirement of migrating all the product, customer and sales data needs to be transitioned across to the new system. This was tackled in a staged approach, using a test environment which we set up for the client. Once all this data was ported across we architected the new solution around it. The added benefit being that the new site could be tested with real data, providing a much more accurate test base. The specific design and user experience requirements were implemented into the look and feel and a number of professional WordPress plug ins were recommended by us to further enhance the order processing experience for the client. We also handled all the Unix server setup and configuration, domain name management and updates, third party integrations such as social account feeds, MailChimp account linking and integration with a number of Amazon Web Services solutions to further enhance the site's operational performance and scalability.
Delivery
The new store was rolled out after an extensive period of testing and evaluation to ensure a smooth transition. We continue to provide operational support and continuous upgrades to the store.
